The Unidad de Océano y Clima (UOC / ULPGC-CSIC) is an R&D&I associated unit between the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). It arises from the shared vision of combining and complementing the knowledge and experience of leading oceanography groups:
- the Instituto Universitario de Oceanografía y Cambio Global (IOCAG, ULPGC),
- the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM, CSIC), and,
- the Centro Oceanográfico de Canarias (COC, IEO-CSIC), since 2025.
This collaboration aims to strengthen the scientific capacity of the UOC by integrating expertise across multiple branches of oceanography — physical, biological, geological, and chemical — while promoting joint research in data analysis, numerical modelling, and oceanographic instrumentation.
Together, these institutions form a solid, competitive, and interdisciplinary unit dedicated to advancing the understanding of ocean and climate processes at regional and global scales.
