Pressure Inverted Echo Sounder (PIES) acquisition

The main objective of The MACCLIMA project, financed by the Interreg MAC programme, is to promote and advance the gradual development of an institutional, scientific and social network in the cooperation area (the Canary Islands, Madeira, Mauritania, Senegal and Cape Verde) so as to work in a coordinated manner on climate change adaptation and mitigation. To this end, the Physical Oceanography Group (GOF) of the Instituto de Oceanografía y Cambio Global has acquired two Pressure Inverted Echo Sounders (PIES). These pieces of equipment have been anchored in different points of the study area in order to obtain continuous data over the two years of the project’s development. Once the data has been recovered, it will be processed and analysed with the aim of learning more about the transport of mass, heat and fresh water, fundamental aspects for determining the effects of climate change.
